Divum – How it all started…

Divum Corporate Services Pvt Ltd

When it all started…

Well like lots of other initiatives, ideas, projects & start ups, you can blame the great Steve Jobs for this one too!

The year was 2007- we were in USA, Vaidee (Vaideeswaran Sethuraman) was working for Montalvo systems (silicon valley based startup).Vaidee being a passionate mobile user right from early days,  used to sport a Nokia & a Blackberry phone.

iPhone was launched! announced in January 2007 and released the following June, the iPhone marked Apple’s entry into the cellular phone marketplace. seeing a friend of our’s (Sunil Kumar Sajjan- who also joined divum later) using one, Vaidee got curious wondering why would somebody buy an expensive phone which had limited features? compared to the other phones iphone didn’t have many apps back then. Though within 3-4 months of iphone’s launch the ‘app store’ was launched we didn’t have any idea that we would be going the mobile app development way.

 Divum takes shape

imac-divumWe came back to India in early 2008 harboring our longstanding ambitions of starting up. Looking for a desktop to help do some initial research on the world of entrepreneurship  we bought an Apple iMac. Soon we got our 1st project through the global online employment platform for freelance professionals. We developed a utility app for one Mr. Mathew Higgins for just $100!

The First Major App

Our first real project was for Mr. Joshua of Phoenix Ventures wherein we developed the entire framework for his trivia apps. Today there are anywhere between 250-300 apps working on the framework we developed.

Shortly after we started working with Nokia & Blackberry too. Couple of years down the line other platforms like Android, Windows & Bada were brought into the fold.

Looking back

With some senior people joining us, we have moved from strength to strength, carving a name for ourselves in the mobile applications space, in little over 3 years, Divum today is 35+ employee strong company boasting of over 300 apps across all major platforms.

But then as they say the journey has only begun…
